How Long Can I Expect My Solar Panels to Work?

One of the most common questions we receive from prospective clients is, “How long will the solar panels last?” It’s a very reasonable question given the initial investment cost of installing solar panels, but the good news is that these panels will last you a very long time – they are well worth the investment! Unlike small electronic devices that require maintenance and need to be replaced every few years, solar panels do not require much upkeep and are very durable.

The reason why solar panels last a long time is that the panels are made of high quality materials that are sturdy like Plexiglas and metal frames – they are not such delicate parts that will wear out easily and they are made to just absorb the sun and can withstand tough conditions.

If you were to ask some of the first homeowners who installed solar panels on their homes a few decades ago how the panels are working, you would likely hear that they are still producing efficient energy, although perhaps not as efficient as when they were first installed. Studies have shown that panels older than 30 years are still working effectively.

One part of your solar panel system that may need to be replaced is the inverter. A solar panel inverter is what converts the sun’s energy into power that can be used in your home. Inverters are generally expected to last more than 14 years until they need to be replaced.

As solar panel technology continues to improve, you can certainly expect the panels to last even longer.
